Human Thinking

Key Bible Verse: “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.” (Isaiah 55:8)

Dig Deeper: Isaiah 55:8-13

How is it that Clay could have missed the gospel? There are many answers, but both Clay and I believe it’s because so many have added human thinking to the gospel message. Such thinking was around even in Jesus’ day. When Jesus first reveals to the disciples that he will go to the cross, Peter feels Jesus needs his help to think more clearly. So Peter rebukes Jesus, “Never, Lord! … This shall never happen to you.” And how did Jesus respond? “You do not have in mind the [concerns] of God, but [merely human concerns]” (Matt. 16:22-23, NIV).

Peter couldn’t bear to think that Jesus would choose the humiliating way of the cross. The cross was an unnaturally cruel death. But it was viagra pharmacy the way God chose to redeem the world. Peter wanted to subtract from the plan of God. We too want to subtract the offense of the cross. We tend to avoid and subtract the messy parts of the gospel about crucifixion, sin, and repentance.

Additions to the gospel are as dangerous as subtractions. Be moral, do good deeds, get educated, become religious, belong to a certain denomination. This is human thinking. We must never add to God’s declaration that we are Christians by faith, not by works (Eph. 2:8).

—J. Mack Stiles in Marks of the Messenger

My Response: Are there any aspects of the gospel I’m nervous or hesitant about believing or sharing? Why?

Be an Angel

Key Bible Verse: “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15)

Dig Deeper: Romans 10:13-17
On a clear night in the Jude an countryside shepherds were on duty through the night, caring for their flocks. Shepherds labored long hours for a meager reward. Life never changed for them.

Suddenly the sky lit up with fiery, heavenly messengers. An angel cried out, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (Luke 2:10, NKJV). The good news of the Gospel brings great joy. Significantly, the first time it was shared, it was presented to people working the night shift! God loves working people and he delights in bringing them good news.

“Angel” means “messenger.” It describes someone who delivers a message. Rather than always dispatching cialis uk winged emissaries from heaven, God may assign us that task. The news of Christ is good news and it brings great joy. The marketplace is filled with joyless people who desperately need good news. You can be God’s ambassador to your workplace with a message that infuses people with hope. The gospel can bring people the “breakthrough” they are looking for that forever changes their lives. You could be God’s dispenser of good news to your colleagues. Who might you share that message with today?

—Richard Blackaby in The Inspired Leader

Theme of the week: How to Have a Spiritual Influence

Weekend Bible Study

We all want to live influential lives. We all want to be loved and looked up to while we’re alive and remembered when we’re gone. The gospel is the only message that fundamentally transforms people and has an eternal influence. We have been entrusted with this message that literally gives freedom to captive souls (v. 6). Paul calls us to follow his example in praying that all people, including our authorities (and you’ll remember Nero was the ruler at that time!), would experience the truth in Christ.

Key Study Passage:
1 Timothy 2:1-7

Why does Paul tell people who are oppressed by authorities to pray for their oppressors? (See also Heb. 11:32-40; 2 Cor. 11:24-27; Matt. 5:43-45.)
Why do you think prayer is such an valium help desk software important element in spiritual influence?
Who is in your sphere of spiritual influence? In what ways can you share the hope that you have in Christ?
How can you be more deliberate about seizing opportunities to have faith conversations with others?
Spend some time praying for the people God has brought to mind throughout the course of this week’s readings and Bible study.

Spend Time in Prayer:
Ask God to help you be responsive to other people’s spiritual needs; ask him to help you have a spiritual influence on the people with whom you interact each day.

The 1st Affair

A married man was having an affair

with his secretary.

One day they went to her place

and made love all afternoon.

Exhausted, they fell asleep

and woke up at 8 PM .

The man hurriedly dressed

and told his lover to take his shoes

outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.

He put on his shoes and drove home.

‘Where have you been?’ his wife demanded.

‘I can’t lie to you,’ he replied,

‘I’m having an affair with my secretary.

We had sex all afternoon.’

She looked down at his shoes and said:

‘You lying bastard!

You’ve been playing golf!’

The 2nd Affair

A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters

but always talked about having a son.

They decided to try one last time

for the son they always wanted.

The wife got pregnant

and delivered a healthy baby boy.

The joyful father rushed to the nursery

to see his new son.

He was horrified at the ugliest child

he had ever seen.

He told his wife: ‘There’s no way I can

be the father of this baby.

Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered!

Have you been fooling around behind my back?’

The wife smiled sweetly and replied:

‘Not this time!’

The 3rd Affair

A mortician was working late one night.

He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz,

about to be cremated,

and made a startling discovery.

Schwartz had the largest private part

he had ever seen!

‘I’m sorry Mr. Schwartz,’ the mortician

commented, ‘I can’t allow you to be cremated

with such an impressive private part.

It must be saved for posterity.’

So, he removed it,

stuffed it into his briefcase,

and took it home

‘I have something to show

you won’t believe,’ he said to his wife,

opening his briefcase.

‘My God!’ the wife exclaimed,

‘Schwartz is dead!’

The 4th Affair

A woman was in bed with her lover

when she heard her husband levitra coupons

opening the front door.

‘Hurry,’ she said, ‘stand in the corner.’

She rubbed baby oil all over him,

then dusted him with talcum powder.

‘Don’t move until I tell you,’

she said, ‘pretend you’re a statue.’

‘What’s this?’ the husband inquired

as he entered the room.

‘Oh it’s a statue,’ she replied,

‘the Smiths bought one and I liked it

so I got one for us, too.’

No more was said,

not even when they went to bed.

Around 2 AM the husband got up,

went to the kitchen and returned

with a sandwich and a beer.

‘Here,’ he said to the statue, have this.

I stood like that for two days at the Smiths

and nobody offered me a damned thing.’

The 5th Affair

A man walked into a cafe,

went to the bar and ordered a beer.

‘Certainly, Sir, that’ll be one cent.’

‘One Cent?’ the man exclaimed.

He glanced at the menu and asked:

‘How much for a nice juicy steak

and a bottle of wine?’

‘A nickel,’ the barman replied.

‘A nickel?’ exclaimed the man.

‘Where’s the guy who owns this place?’

The bartender replied:

‘Upstairs, with my wife.’

The man asked: ‘What’s he doing upstairs

with your wife?’

The bartender replied:

‘The same thing I’m doing

to his business down here.’

The 6th Affair

Jake was dying. His wife sat at the bedside.

He looked up and said weakly:

‘I have something I must confess.’

‘There’s no need to, ‘his wife replied.

‘No,’ he insisted,

‘I want to die in peace.

I slept with your sister, your best friend,

her best friend, and your mother!’

‘I know,’ she replied,

‘now just rest and let the poison work.’ Order Windows 7 Ultimate

Theme of the Week: A Matter of Life and Death
The Highest Stakes

Key Bible Verses: Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?” He replied, “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.” (Luke 13:23-24)

Dig Deeper: Luke 13:22-29

A question about salvation is a question about the four final things—life or death, heaven or hell, forever. That’s why Jesus said what he said [in today’s passage] when he was asked if very many were going to be saved.
The Greek word agon, translated “work hard” [in today’s passage], was the word used for vigorous athletic competition. Using this athletic metaphor, Jesus said to attack the all-important question of salvation the way a runner runs a race, or a fighter fights a fight. “Work hard to enter the narrow door to God’s kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail.”

Athletes instinctively understand the total attention required by agon because they understand judgment. The two, agon and judgment, go buy cialis together, because every contest, every competition, has a definite beginning and end, with a conclusion, a denouement, a judgment; a winner and a loser, or losers. It is the anticipated judgment—the stakes, the numbers on the scoreboard—that marvelously focus the athlete’s mind.

The stakes are the highest. They are a matter of life and death, forever. So engage in agon, fight the good fight, run the race, seize each passing moment with vigor and passion—go after life, go after God, with everything in you.

—Ben Patterson in Muscular Faith

My Response: What does it mean to “attack the all-important question of salvation”?

The Day God Died

Key Bible Verse: Never again will death have the last word. (Romans 6:9, The Message)

Dig Deeper: 1 Peter 3:18-21

I said before that Saturday is the day when nothing happens. That’s not quite right. Silence happens on Saturday. After trouble hits you, after the agony of Friday, you call out to God. “Hear me! Listen to me! Respond to me! Do something! Say something! Rescue!” Nothing.

An ancient homily spoke of this strange day: “What happened today on earth? There is a great silence—a great silence and stillness. A great silence because the king sleeps. God has died in the flesh, and hell trembles with fear. He has gone to search for our first parent as for a lost sheep.” The Apostles’ Creed says Jesus descended in to hell. Somehow no suffering you go through is suffering Jesus will not endure in order to save you.

The miracle of Sunday is that a dead man lives. The miracle of Saturday is that the doesage valium children eternal Son of God lies dead.

So Jesus Christ defeats our great enemy death not by proclaiming his invincibility over it but by submitting himself to it. If you can find this Jesus in a grave, if you can find him in death, if you can find him in hell, where can you not find him? Where will he not turn up?

—John Ortberg in Who Is This Man?

My Response: I will reflect on the importance of the day before Easter Sunday.

Thought to Apply: [Jesus drank] the cup of mortality to its last, most hellish drop …. Would there be a Christian gospel were it not true that God has been found among the dying and the dead?—Alan Lewis (writer)

Gotta love the church lady!

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired
for her sweetness and kindness to all.

One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited
him to have a seat while she prepared tea. As he sat facing her old Hammond organ, the young minister
noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water, and in the water floated,
of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to
stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and
he quick forum readtopic propecia signature search could no longer resist.

“Miss Beatrice,” he said, “I wonder if you would tell me about this?” pointing to the bowl. “Oh, yes,” she
replied, “Isn’t it wonderful? I was walking through the Park a few months ago and I found this little
package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent
the spread of disease. Do you know I haven’t had the flu all winter?”

Between the Trees

Key Bible Verse: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life. (Revelation 22:13-14, ESV)

Dig Deeper: Revelation 22:1-17

The Tree of Life in Genesis and then the Tree of Life in Revelation are the bookends of the story of human history. That tree is at the beginning of our story. This tree will be at the climax of our story. We’re not part of a random cosmic accident. We have a story. [In the end], the arts, education, economics, and all building activities will be so God-powered and God-honoring that all of God’s created order will flourish. In the meantime, we live, in Rob Bell’s memorable phrase, “between the trees.” After the Genesis tree, before the Revelation tree, we live between the trees. Beginning, middle, end. Creation, fall, redemption. Father, Son, Spirit. Yesterday, today, tomorrow. Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

We live between the trees. But God is eternal. “I which is better the levitra are the cialis am the Alpha and the Omega,” and this title recurs: “who is, and who was, and who is to come.” Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. “In the beginning”—stretch as far down that direction as you can imagine, and then go infinitely further—God existed. Omega is the last letter. “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”

He is moving us from one tree to the other tree.

—John Ortberg in Who Is This Man?

My Response: I will spend time thanking and praising God that he is moving me from “one tree to the other tree.”

3.. After 45 minutes you may eat and drink as normal.
4. After 15 minutes of breakfast, lunch and dinner do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours

This makes sense .. The Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals not cold water. Maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!! Nothing to lose, everything to gain…
For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion.
Once this ’sludge’ reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.
A serious note about heart attacks:
· Women should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting,· Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.· You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack.· Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms.· 60% of people who have a heart attack while they are asleep do not wake up.· Pain in the jaw can wake you from a sound sleep. Let’s be careful and be aware. The more we know, the better chance we could survive…A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to everyone they know, you can be sure that we’ll save at least one life. Please be a true friend and send this article to all your friends you care about.

Theme of the Week: A Matter of Life and Death

Life and Death in Focus

It’s hard to follow Jesus,

but it’s a good hard. To follow Jesus is to choose life over death, heaven over hell forever. The road to life is a good hard. The road to hell is easy, but it ends in a very, very bad hard. [See Mark 8:35-37 and Matt. 7:13-14.]
Fyodor Dostoyevsky understood this. On December 22, 1849, he stood shivering before a firing squad, tied to a post and robed in a white burial shroud. He and a few others had been convicted of treason by Tsar Nicholas I, who wanted to impress upon other intellectuals the gravity of Online Casino promoting radical political views. But at the last minute, as rifles were cocked and raised, and the order, “Ready, aim!” was shouted, a horseman galloped dramatically into the scene with a note from the tsar in hand. Nicholas would commute their sentences to four years of hard labor.

[Someone once said that] the prospect of standing before a firing squad marvelously focuses one’s mind. The experience certainly focused Dostoyevsky’s mind and marked him for the rest of his life. [continued 2/25]
